Their second tour of the year kicks off this Friday, with multiple dates in Germany, Poland, the The Czech Republic.
Over two years Big League’s frontman, Travis Velthoven, set in place highly productive processes and writing sessions courtesy of the school holidays that his day job provided. He carried that structural approach through to the recording studio where the album was recorded by Michael Marinucci at Brown Lounge Sound. This new environment marked a departure from the home studio lo-fi sounds of their previous album, instead embracing the sonic textures the group can conjure from years of playing together, all the while maintaining the rock edge and catchy melodies that make the band special.
Big League’s other secret weapon is that the new album was mixed by Beau Sorenson, the US producer and engineer with an impressive CV that includes Bob Mould, Sparklehorse, Death Cab For Cutie and most recently, Taylor Swift!
Sonically there’s an arc to Heathen Sound that encompasses the best aspects of indie and alternative rock, where big ideas cosy up to life-affirming and emotive rock music. Through their distinctive language of distorted melodies, Big League spin tales that celebrate the often unappreciated details of suburban Australia.
Labasheeda will be playing dates throughout Germany and The Czech Republic, with a first show at Az Mulheim on September 26.
On 31 Jan Alex Nahas did an online only live broadcast from NYC’s iconic Rockwood Music Hall celebrating his new release of ” Where The Ocean Once Was”
With a great performance of the song “Nine Times” with his magic band. With Setch Szendrody (drums), Marco Bolfelli (guitar), Emily Savannah (vocals), Meg Massalone (vox), and Alex Nahas (vox and Chapman Stick).
Wrong Concerts just released a charity sampler featuring 25 bands, including Labasheeda’s single ‘False Flag‘. You can buy this compilation by donating 10 euros or more on Bandcamp. Funds raised go entirely to the victims of the earthquake in Turkey. Read more about this project on hilfsbund.com
After three shows in France last month, Labasheeda will be on tour again in Germany and the Czech Republic in May. Leading with a home show in Amsterdam at De Nieuwe Anita with Saluting Rome.
Brooklyn-based singer, Chapman Stick player, and multi-instrumentalist Alex Nahas aka Bright Brown confronts our collective existentialism in his hypnotizing new hit “Aimless”. Delivering reflective vocals and an addictive instrumental loop, “Aimless” questions our continued desire to set lofty goals despite knowing that there’s only so much that we can control. The pandemic proved that life is capable of throwing us unpredictable turns in events, making it that much harder to plan and devise. So instead of planning ahead, “Aimless” is about living in the moment and the beauty of being present during uncertainty as we continue to take life one fickle day at a time.
“Why take aim, Because aimless is drifting / And drifting is easier, Easier brings peace” ~ “Aimless”
Ironically, the first time Nahas performed “Aimless” was a few days before everything shut down for COVID. At the time, the song was simply an improvisation, but as time went on, the lyrics took on a whole new meaning. Aimless features Nahas singing and playing the rarely heard Chapman Stick, Eddie Avakian on drums, Jamie Muhoberac on keyboards, and Ava Nahas on percussion. As his music has evolved over time, so have his other creative endeavors. Recently, his latest EP offered fans a beautifully illustrated lyric book, where he reflected in a post-2020 world through his dark but hopeful lens. Nahas delivers musical influence from artists like Peter Gabriel, Talk Talk, David Bowie and Elvis Costello – all being one of a kind musicians who shoehorned unorthodox approaches into digestible pop music. Thoughtful and reflective, with a knack for rendering outside-world concerns in the landscape of the personal, Bright Brown continues to venture into new frontiers with each successive song.
The Independent Label Market returns and Presto Chango Records will be with a stand on it!
On Sunday September 19, from 12:00 – 18:00, as usual in the shaded surroundings of Amsterdam’s Tolhuistun.
This year co-hosted by Koen (Subroutine) and Marcel (Subblicous / Smikkelbaard), together with residents Excelsior Recordings.
